BONUS: Protecting Bahsahwahbee: A Living Refuge for the Ancestors
Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Meet my friend Delaine, an Ely Shoshone elder with enough badassery, grit, courage, and humor for all of us. I took this portrait of her back in January at her home outside Ely, Nevada.
I wrote a story about Delaine, her son Rick, and a place called Bahsahwahbee that was published today in Emergence Magazine. The essay is accompanied by photos and some incredible footage from my director pal Jeremy Seifert. You can also listen to me reading the story.
